As a birth doula, my goal is to help each birthing woman have a positive birth experience that empowers her as a person and as a mother to her new baby. I have always found women’s capacity for birth fascinating, and feel profoundly privileged to participate in this beautiful process.
I believe that the role of a doula is to be present for the woman and her support persons, encouraging whatever environment and experience the mother wants for her growing family. I offer emotional support and encouragement, physical comfort measures, and knowledge of the birth process.
I completed my training as a doula through DONA in March 2011 and began working with PDX Doulas in July 2011. I expect to receive my certification through DONA soon. In addition to my training as a doula, I have a bachelor’s degree in Intercultural Communication and speak Spanish fluently.
