Erica Semeyn, MA,CD(DONA) — Board of Directors

Congratulations on your birth journey; what an exciting time of transformation and possibility!

I believe that the birth of a baby not only marks the beginning of a new life, but also is a time of personal discovery and rebirth on the part of the mother. It is my privilege to accompany you during this journey and to help you create a birth story that will bring you joyful memories.

My intention as a doula is to provide unwavering support and empower mothers to tap into their inherent strength and capability. A mother’s labor is some of the most challenging and meaningful work she will do in her lifetime, and I am humbled and inspired by sharing in the process. I will join you with positive energy and without judgment or preference. I will respect your birth plan and help to uphold it, and also ensure that you (and your partner) are informed and active members in the decision-making process throughout the birth. I have experience with unmedicated births, inductions, VBAC’s, epidurals, and I have been lucky to have supported a wide range of families, including open adoptions, same-sex parents, and non-english language families.

Originally from Michigan, I completed my doula training in Ann Arbor at the Center for the Childbearing Year and relocated to Portland shortly thereafter. I have also completed the Nursing Mother’s Counsel breastfeeding training, and I can provide you with nursing tips and resources that will give you extra confidence as you get started with feeding your little one. Aside from birth and babies, additional joys include running, getting muddy in Forest Park with my dog, baking, gardening and raising chickens, traveling, practicing Spanish, and absorbing patches of sunshine where I can find them.
